A passage under Gutenberg to give teams more autonomy

Recast the WordPress base to lift the internal brakes and restore autonomy to the teams, with a migration to Gutenberg and an optimization of performance and accessibility. A simpler base to maintain and more fluid to evolve.

Background

Action against Hunger relies on its institutional site to carry out its mission and inform its audiences. When the teams asked us, the site was not out of date. But in-house, it became binding.

Publishing content was complex. Changing a page took time. And sometimes, a simple adjustment required technical intervention. Slowly but surely, the tool was stopping the teams instead of supporting them.

It was therefore necessary to return to a solid foundation. A base that can evolve without adding complexity. A tool that restores autonomy, lasting.

1. Simplify contribution via Gutenberg

2. Modernize WordPress technical base

3. Building an evolutionary and sustainable basis

The solution

We carried out a complete technical overhaul of the WordPress base, without heavy functional overhaul. The stakes were not to transform everything. But to put the tool back at the service of the teams.

The migration to Gutenberg made it possible to simplify the contribution experience: clear blocks, reusable, designed for everyday life.

The redesign involved both the institutional site and the recruitment site, in a multi-site and multilingual environment. The work was mainly organised around 3 axes: Rationalisation of the existing, optimization of performance and improvement of accessibility.

In parallel, we have prepared the ground for future developments – without complexing architecture.

Design work came to support these technical choices, to optimize the final rendering.

The challenge was not to transform everything, but to put the tool back at the service of the teams.

Collaboration

The project was built in close connection with the Action Against Hunger teams. The context was demanding: budget, planning, technical priorities.

We have advanced with pragmatism. Arbitrator. Simplify. Decide. With one goal in mind: make useful choices over time.

The result

Teams now have a tool that they can actually use on a daily basis.

The contribution is simpler. Evolutions are more fluid. Content can evolve without technical blocking.

Technically, the platform is stronger, more efficient and easier to maintain.

The site becomes again a living tool, at the service of the mission of Action against Hunger.
